Finals are behind you and graduation is over… so now what do you do?  You worked long and hard getting to this point but the last thing you want to do now is to take a break.  Now is the time to take care of some very important business.  Here are a few reminders about how you can make the transition to your new career go smoothly.

 

Renew you ASCLS Membership as a First Year Professional

The First Year Professional Membership is open to persons who have graduated within the last 12 months from an accredited program in laboratory science.  Prior student membership with ASCLS is not a prerequisite. This discounted membership status is valid for only one year to assist recent graduates. After one year in this category, members are upgraded to Professional membership.

Take your Certification Exam

ASCLS has partnered with the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) which is a recognized leader in certification of medical laboratory professionals. By earning credentials from the ASCP BOC, laboratory professionals demonstrate their competence to carry out their responsibilities in this critical profession. In turn, they reap the benefits of better job prospects, higher salaries and the respect of colleagues. Long considered the “gold standard,” BOC certification is sought out by seven times as many laboratory professionals as any other lab professional credentialing organization.  Membership in ASCP is not a requirement of certification through the BOC.
